Latest Announcement
Application for Sponsorship: Fall 2012 enrolment - DEADLINE IS JUNE 15TH
Submitted February 08th 2012
For those of you that haven’t already done so, AND if you are continuing your studies at an eligible college or university in the upcoming school year, 2012/2013,YOU MUST SUBMIT A NEW Garden River APPLICATION for Post-Secondary Sponsorship by the upcoming JUNE 15th deadline.
There are no exceptions....if you need or want sponsorship, you must apply by this deadline.
Remember sponsorship is NOT automatic for the entire length of your program....you must reapply every year…
Yes that really means you too!
For easier access, the application forms can be downloaded from our website at www.gardenriver.ca under the Post-Secondary: Downloads section (or you can stop by my office to fill one in). To try and eliminate any unnecessary problems with the downloads, please ensure that you "refresh" webpages as you may only be accessing "cached" pages.
The complete application package for full-time sponsorship contains 4 pages :
(i) GRFN Application for Post-Secondary Educational Assistance
(ii) Consent to Disclose and Verify Information
(iii) Contract
(iv) Release of Information
Please complete each page by filling in your personal info, education plan, other pertinent information and sign each page. You must always submit all FOUR pages to complete your application for full-time sponsorship. Incomplete applications will not be considered.
As the deadline is approaching fast, and before you get too busy with your summer plans, I strongly recommend that you take care of this right away…it is safer to apply early than to leave until it is too late. If you cannot physically bring the application to my office, you can fax a copy to me at fax # (705) 946-0413 then mail the original.....and then, call or email me to confirm that I received your application.
HOW ARE FUNDING DECISIONS MADE?
First of all, I have to review all applicant’s files and the education plans in order to accurately assess and determine the overall funding required and eligibility for each semester/year. I review the following for each applicant:
- Each applicant’s individual eligibility for the funding and the level of education requested
- According to this individual review, each applicant is then assigned an appropriate Priority number according to their sponsorship and educational history. All applications are then considered according to their priority. The Priority List is described on pages 2 and 3 of the GRFN PS Operating Guidelines.
- The Education Plan: school and program indicated *** therefore, please do not leave the Education Plan section blank.
- Budget requirements for this education plan
When I am finished, I have to review the remaining PS Budget for the fiscal year along with the budget requirements for all of the applicants. I remind you that as per the GRFN PS Operating Guidelines, sponsorship for all applicants is always dependent upon the available funding and will be subject to the order of the priority list. This information is provided to the Education Manager for review and she in turn meets with Chief and Council for final approvals based upon all of the above.
Everyone that submits an Application for Sponsorship for 2010/2011 academic year will be receiving a letter in the mail within a week or two (depending on the frequency of Chief and Council meetings AND of course, your mail delivery).
At this time, I want to remind you of the importance of planning your educational path and being successful in all of your courses. With the increasing number of applications for post-secondary sponsorship, the limited available funding AND with all the uncertainty of INAC’s PS program/funding , it is of the utmost importance to stay on track by being a responsible student that attends all of your classes, studies, completes all quizzes, tests, exams, assignments, projects, etc. for ALL of your courses and of course, by passing all of your courses. This is necessary in order to maintain your higher priority number for continued funding.
IMPORTANT: Because there will be deadlines to reply to me after June 15th, please make sure that keep me informed of how best to contact you at that time. Please keep your real address, email (the one that you check regularly), and phone number up-to-date at all times AND REMEMBER TO CHECK YOUR MAIL REGULARLY.
Please feel free to pass along this information to anyone else that you know is interested in starting their studies at college or university this Fall 2010.
Anne Marie Jones
Post-Secondary Counsellor
